Dieter Schafer 6-9 pm. Learn how to taste wine knowledgeably
and describe what you are tasting. In this 6-hour course, Certified
Educator and Sommelier Dieter Schafer introduces you to wine
types, grapes, varietals, and wine regions of the world as well
as the basics of reading a wine label. Also included is discussion
wine-and-food pairing, what matches well, what doesn't and why.
Tasting each session. Must be 21 years of age to attend. $71

Bastille Day "Bal des Pompiers" Dinner
with Chef Thierry Rautureau and Maitre d'Hotel Dieter Schafer.
6 pm. The Consular Agency of France and the French American
Chamber of Commerce invite you to a four-course Bastille Day
dinner prepared and served by "The Chef In The Hat!"
Thierry Rautureau, the Rover's team, Art Institute chefs and
students, and Maitre d'Hotel Dieter Schafer. … and with
dancing to live French music until midnight. The Bal des Pompiers
(firefighters' ball) is a great tradition in France and is
part of the celebration for Bastille Day. The firefighters
of each city and village are hosts of a ball which often includes
music and partying in the streets. On the main square of any
village, people enjoy a live band, usually with accordion,
and eat, drink and dance with the firefighters under the warm
summer night sky. $49 per person, tax and gratuities included.

and Taste that celebrates wine, art, food, music and lifestyle
benefiting Hope Heart Institute. Activities are throughout Kirkland
with a gated Wine and Lifestyle garden for 21 and over. FESTIVAL:
Friday 2—9pm, Saturday 11am—9pm, Sunday 11am—6pm.
LIFESTYLE & TASTING GARDEN: Friday 5—9pm, Saturday

Wine 101. The Local Vine is offering the
opportunity to learn the basics of wine and wine tasting. This
‘no pressure’ class covers the basics about white
and red wines, wine evaluations, tastings and selections. Participants
will taste, evaluate and discuss at least six different wines
during class. Educational materials will be provided to take
home. Gift certificates available for future class dates. This
is a wonderful opportunity to learn about wines – as well
as a great gift idea to share with the wine lover (or future

Pre-International Pinot Noir Celebration Dinner.
Anne Amie welcomes chef Troy MacLarty of Lovely Hula Hands as
our guest chef. Troy attended the Culinary Institute of America
and served as Joe Montana's private chef before moving to the
famed Chez Panisse in Berkeley for four years. Thankfully for
us he headed to Portland and is now at Lovely Hula Hands
on North Mississippi. Also joining us are winemakers Leslie
Mead from Talley Vineyards on California's South Central Coast
and Michael Richmond from Bouchaine Vineyards in Carneros, Napa
Valley. Paired with
Troy's menu, which has yet to be revealed as he has a mean passion
for seasonal ingredients, will be an assortment of wines from
all three vineyards. Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and of
course Pinot Noir.
Join us for hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 on our patio overlooking
our vineyards & the Pacific Coast range with dinner to follow.
