Carol Lazarra's Notes on the Tuscan Wines Tasting
October 8, 2003
As you know, Chianti is a large
wine region within Tuscany. For
years Americans have thought of
Chianti as a simple, easy to drink
red wine at a reasonable price. This correct.
The description perfectly fits our first wine,
he Forterutoli Sangiovese Badiola 2000.
Think first of Tuscany, then Chianti,
then the Sangiovese grape.
The next wine Casanova Di Neri Rossa di
Montalcino 2000 was named for the fortress
town south of the Chianti region, noted
for very long lived wines with deep color and
intense flavor.
The Barone Ricasoli Rocca Guicciarda
Riserva 1999 is a tru Chianti Classico
and with the Reserva designation it is a
GREAT Chianti wine.
Poliziano Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano,
again named for the town in an area south
of Chianti, still in Tuscany. The wine is
highly recommended. The grape
is Prugnolo Gentile (alias Sangiovese)
Brolio Castello di Brolio 1999 is also
a Chianti Classico. The 1999 was
an exceptional year. This wine has
been 18 months in the barrel and 8
months in the bottle.
The fragrant topaz colored Lungarotti
Vino Santo 1996 needs no introduction
